Pyramid House

Pyramid house is an iconic silhouette in the Pines, and an enduring example of the experimental modernism that is synonymous with Fire Island. Originally built by Kaufman in the early sixties, it has since undergone a number of changes. Sunrise streams through the eastern facade, a wall of glass and steel added to the home by Hal Hayes, C. 2004, opening the main level of the home to the expansive sky, while overlooking the pristine dunes of Fire Island. Sunset bathes the western face in golden light. Three adjoining pavilions opposite the main building - each capped with a translucent pyramid of their own which fill the interior of the guesthouse with soft, wrapping light - enclose a sunken courtyard between the two structures.
